Tajikistan is a great place for mountaineering, rock climbing, walking, fishing, or simply enjoying incredible mountains and lakes. Tajikistan borders with Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in the North and West and China and Afghanistan in the East and South. The mountains occupy 93% of Tajikistan's territory. The Pamirs are located in the Eastern part of the country. It is an ocean of white and blue mountains. When flying over the Pamirs, a panorama of mountain ranges, snow-capped tops, hanging glaciers, rivers, lakes and green valleys are opened to your view. Most of Tajikistan is over 3,000 meters above sea level. While the climate in the valleys is warm, the mountainous regions show a sharp contrast between day and evening temperature. The Fann mountains comprised of hundereds of wonderful peaks and situated in the Gissar and Turkistan Range in the South-West of Pamiro-Alay, another exciting sighseeing. The Fanns attract travelers by their charming beauty. Lakes, among which are Iskanderkul and Allaudin, are picturesquely located in the mountainous area. Iskanderkul is the largest lake in the Pamiro-Alay and the most beautiful in Tajikistan, shinning like an emerald framed by brilliant white mountain peaks. The charm of mountainous landscape is unique and mentioned in the numerous legends and tales from the time of Alexander the Great.
